It’s Sunday and we all know what that means. It’s time to kick back, relax, and dive in to the latest pet news from the week that was.
New Doggie Daycare/Brewery to Open in Strawbridge
First up is a bit of news that both excites and confuses me. I like craft breweries, I like dogs, but there is just something about the combination. I wish them all the best of luck. I don’t want anyone to think my apprehension is out of professional jealousy. A rising tide raises all ships and any new pet business in the area is going to help the overall market. My concerns are two fold. First is when making or serving any type of food or beverage there are a lot of safety rules to follow. Having a food and beverage service business sharing space with a pet business creates a whole litany of issues. Ask any cat cafe owner. The second is for the floppy eared dogs. My hound dog gets yeast based infections in his ears. Yeast is one of the primary ingredients in beer. While I am certain they will do their best to follow all the rules and regulations this is going to be a tough operation to run, but I am sure they are up for it and we can all visit it once it opens to help them to success.
Chesapeake Women Given Wrong Dog by Groomer
I have two personal stories about incidents like this. One happened directly to us and the other was one a client told us. The first story was I got a call from an annoyed client that our sitter had sent them a picture of a cat that wasn’t their’s in their home. As this sitter was one of the best we’ve ever had I wanted to talk to her before saying or doing anything, but first I checked the visit reports. I looked at the picture of the strange cat, then found a picture of their cat, and I’ve got to tell you I couldn’t tell the difference to save my life. They were both gray tabby cats that looked like gray tabby cats. If you didn’t live with the cats you wouldn’t have known the difference. Then I found out that they had a cat door and had been feeding this cat. So at some point their cat went out and this cat that looked almost identical to their cat came in. It’s as I was told long ago if you aren’t making mistakes you aren’t working.
The second story was given to us by a client at a meet and greet. She told us she went to pick up her dog from a boarding facility (I believe this incident is why she hired us), and they brought out a similar looking but different dog. She missed it right away and was part way to the car before realizing this dog wasn’t as energetic. She went back and asked if anything was wrong or had happened. After a couple minutes they realized their mistake and contacted the other pet parents that they had given her dog. They told her that they had had the best time with her dog. That her dog was so energetic and they enjoyed a nice long walk on the beach.
Just like the above story everything turned out for the best, but sometimes telling two dogs the same size, breed, and color apart can be difficult.
Arthritis Medicine Approved for Cats
Aging is an unfortunate fact of life, but now for our cats that fact won’t be as painful thanks to a newly approved arthritis medication. Just like us our animals never get younger and while aging is always difficult it is going to be slightly easier for cats that develop arthritis as they age.
